Professor Mark Emberton gained a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Psychology in 1982, which was followed by a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in Psychology three years later. Prof Emberton went on to be awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1990 and a Specialist Fellowship in Urology from the Royal College of Surgeons in 1997.
In the same year, Prof Emberton completed a Medical Doctorate at the University of London. He has completed higher specialist training in urology and has received awards including the British Urological Foundation Research Award and the Prostate Forum Research Grant. He was also awarded the Golden Telescope by the British Association of Urological Surgeons for his outstanding work in urology.
Prof Emberton is a founding partner of London Urology Associates (LUA) and is currently a Director of the Division of Surgery and International Science at University College London, Professor of Interventional Oncology and Clinical Director of the Clinical Effectiveness Unit at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is also the multidisciplinary team chair for Urological Cancer and Associate Professor at Middlesex University, London.
He is a member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS), the BAUS Oncology Group, the British Prostate Group, the European Association of Urological Surgeons (EAU) and the Spanish Association of Urological Surgeons (AEU).
Prof Emberton specialises in the treatment of prostate cancer, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), and prostatitis; this includes risk stratification in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, and minimally invasive techniques in treating prostate cancer. He is available for private patients at the Princess Grace Hospital, London.
